Sasquatch 2012

This Memorial Day weekend I experienced the Sasquatch 2012 music festival at the Gorge Amphitheater near Quincy, Washington. What a stellar event! I had such an amazing weekend with some truly amazing people. I experienced so many new things, lost something that broke my heart, and enjoyed some fantastic music.

I’m so glad I took the opportunity to come to this event. I went up with my girlfriend Cassie and my friend Dan and went back with my friends Dan and Cassie, and spent most of the weekend with them and a number of new and old friends.

This weekend definitely gave me a lot to think about and also gave me a good chance to think about things that were bothering me. Hopefully I can resolve a number of issues i’m dealing with over the next few weeks, especially with Florida coming up on the 17th of June.

Here’s a listing of some of the performers I had the chance to see live:

  • Tenacious D
  • Beck
  • Jack White
  • Bon Iver
  • Pretty Lights
  • The Shins
  • Beirut
  • Girl Talk
  • The Head & The Heart
  • Feist
  • Silversun Pickups

  • Nero
  • Wolfgang Gartner
  • Of Monsters and Men
  • Little Dragon
  • tUnE-yArDs
  • Beats Antique
  • fun.
  • Little People
  • Alabama Shakes
  • Gardens & Villa

Weekend Half Full

This weekend I did a lot, and then I didn’t do a lot.  It was pretty great.

Friday afternoon, I had a study session with my new flight instructor.  It was a good time.

Friday night and Saturday morning I spent my time playing pool in the Portland Tri-Cups.  We didn’t end up winning, but I got an awesome patch for getting an 8-ball break.  In fact, because of that 8-ball break, I beat a much higher ranked player, two matches to his one.

The rest of Saturday I didn’t do a ton other than try to figure out what I wanted to do that evening and playing some video games.  I ended up finally finishing the Tales of Monkey Island.  This is a five-part game which continues one of my favorite video game series.

That evening I ended up going on a walking tour around part of Portland themed around Ghosts. It was a private event for Couch Surfers.  There were around fifteen of us, of that I knew around four or five.  Afterwards we went to the Green Dragon in SE Portland.  Nice bar with a ton of beers.

Sunday was very relaxing.  I finally caught up on some sleep.  Beat another game I’d been meaning to play through, Braid.  This game is a really awesome time-based side scrolling game.  I’ve seen a number of components used in other games, but never done so well.  It was a great game, though the story gets confusing in parts.

The rest of the day was spent watching the first episode of the prequel to Spartacus: Blood and Sand, Spartacus: Gods of the Arena.  The first season was awesome and made me really want more.  Sadly though, I found out the lead actor who played Spartacus, Andy Whitfield, ended up being diagnosed with cancer.  This really made me bummed because he is an awesome actor that I wanted to see a lot more of.  Well instead of cancelling the show, they decided to come out with a prequel (I’m hoping until Andy gets fixed for the sequel to Blood and Sand).  So far, I’m excited for the direction of the show!

The evening was coming close to an end as I decided to finally watch one of the movies I have queued up.  What was the movie of the evening, you ask!?  None other than… “Machete”.

I enjoyed this movie.  The story wasn’t the most interesting, but the portrayal of the characters was hilarious and all for fun.  It also has one of my favorites, Jessica Alba, who looked so damn good.  If you get a chance and want to watch an action movie with a bit of humor, then check this one out.

That brings a close to my weekend.  Nothing too crazy, but overall it was great.

How about yourself?  Do anything awesome over the weekend?  Tell me in the comment!

Posting From My New Phone

This is my post using my new htc EVO 4G phone. I’m writing this using Swype which is a new easy to input text by swypingfinger instead of pressing all over the keypad.

So far this has been an awesome phone to use. I’m even really liking the use of Sprint over ATT!

Yesterday, I finished reading one of Chris Guillebeau’s manifestos, A Brief Guide to World Domination.  Let me first start out by telling you that you can read this for yourself, free!

Second, this guide is geared for those who want to do more than they currently are doing, to become someone more than they are, and help others in the process.  If that is you, then get reading (less than 30 pages).

It is a great read, and definitely gets you thinking. So go out there, and get your hands on the guide today.

Boxee rocks!

Boxee

If you haven’t tried out Boxee for your media pc software, then I recommend you get going and try it out. Boxee is fantastic with very easy to use software.  I installed this great piece of work onto my main pc and my home theater pc and it just rocks.  It is able to grab your tv shows and movie files on your computer (or another computer on your network) and actually find out what show it ties to, what episode it is, what season it is for, and also if available online, an image about the show, and a description with a possible rating.  It does this for TV shows and also pulls the box art for movies as well.

Don’t have any shows on your computer…that is just fine, it’ll also list shows online and tell you which link it recommends (whether Hulu, ABC, NBC, etc.).  If you have an episode on your machine however, it’ll recommend that first, then show other locations for the episode available online.  It is also great to watch YouTube videos and others.

I really recommend this software for Windows, Unix, Macs, etc.
